Happy birthday, school community- children, teachers, parents, caregivers, grandparents, aunts and uncles, siblings, friends and neighbors! You are the heart of this school, and my, is it thriving this 50th year, with your love.
As Director of this astounding community, and in creative partnership with Assistant Director, Stacey Wood, as well as Nia House's treasured Board of Directors, I can’t wait to usher Nia House into its 51st year and beyond. The school itself holds dreams and visions of serving children and families, recruiting and supporting a remarkable teaching team, supporting caregivers, and giving children the freedom to see their own unbelievable potential with Dr. Montessori’s esteemed pedagogy.
We’ve been busy over the last decade. Together we have nearly doubled our school’s enrollment. Financial aid has been substantially increased to serve 50% of our community and developed the site by adding 2 beautiful toddler classrooms and an office. We’ve enhanced our spacious grounds with a new playhouse, expanded the children’s garden areas, and created a concrete mosaic sandbox. Very importantly, through strategic planning, we’ve fortified our commitment to social justice.
We have ambitious goals for Nia House’s next chapter. We will sustain 50% of our students and families with financial aid; prioritize financial aid enrollment for families most in need; and offer direct tuition assistance to our teachers for their continued education. And with these achievements, the magic of NIa House will sprinkle into the earliest formidable memories of even more young children, preparing the next generation for global leadership in areas of environmental stewardship, social justice, and peace. Hearing Nia House children resolving interpersonal conflicts, experiencing challenges and joys in their daily work, correcting their own mistakes and offering care to one another is a microcosm of our new generation’s preparation to tackle global injustices. In this time of global turmoil and change, we look to Nia House children's innate goodness with hope and enormous possibility.
Please join me in honoring Nia House’s past and envisioning a sustainable long-term future for this school. That future includes you. All of us on the staff are heartened by your continued connections, notes with photos, quick check-ins, family holiday cards, generous contributions, and kindness of all sorts. The many ways you continue to share and spread the impacts of Nia House in your families and homes is a clear demonstration of your value of our shared dreams and sustaining magic. Please join me in keeping the magic of Nia House shining through children’s eyes for another half century and beyond.
Sincerely,
Eve Uberman
