When earth activism starts young it has important and lasting impacts! Nia House alumni Brazil Fisher-Johnson has been involved in meaningful earth activism targeting zero waste in Berkeley and climate control.

Brazil was part of a two year community campaign to significantly reduce the amount of disposable foodware in Berkeley’s restaurant industry. Joined by notable community members, including Alice Waters- chef, author, food activist, and the founder and owner of Chez Panisse Restaurant in Berkeley, the The Disposable-Free Dining Ordinance went into effect in March 2019!

It took a year of speaking at press conferences with the mayor, board meetings and public engagement but they did it all by themselves!

Brazil’s activism has her working with organizations including Heirs to Our Oceans- an international for youth and by youth leadership coalition focussing on environmental and humanitarian challenges.

Brazil has been recognized by Emerging Voices, The Sierra Club, and the Ecology Center.

There is no doubt about it- the world is a better place with Brazil in it!

We are so proud and honored to have been a part of her early years!
